I've been traveling and planning trips by myself for years now and have learned what apps really come in handy when planning and while on the go. Check out my TOP 8 must have travel apps!
If you're looking for things to do in the location you're traveling to, this app is definitely a must have. I've used it in every country, city or state I've traveled to and they have reputable guides and activities all around the world. Plan a helicopter ride, snorkeling, wine tasting and so much more using Viator!
Great for selecting affordable flights domestically and internationally. The best way to plan a trip that won't cost a lot is to book in advance. Choose the dates and location you want to travel (or leave it open) and skyscanner will find and narrow down flights for the lowest prices
Whatsapp is perfect for traveling internationally. It's a free app that let's you contact others without running up your phone bill while out the country. I've used it to confirm tours and hotel reservations while in other countries as well as contact people back home. It runs on wifi so you don't have to use your phones data plan!

Some don't even require a passport!
Booking trips on the fly comes natural when you're a opportunistic traveler like me. I book a trip because the flight price is right and then I worry about my accommodations. Expedia helps me narrow down my search by allowing me to look for hotels in my price range, by name or by proximity to where I want to be. You can also use it to book rental cars, cruises and other travel activities.
You'll definitely want to have a rideshare app downloaded on your phone when traveling. No one likes overprices taxis or sitting around in airports waiting on shuttles. Rideshare apps like Lyft and Uber are reliable, dependable and get you where you need to be for far less than a taxi ride would. You can request vehicles based on size or the need for disability assistance. If you're not looking to pay for a rental car, rideshare is your next best option. There is no cash exchanged and drivers are typically friendly and helpful on recommendations for the area. One or both of these apps are a must have!
6. Airline App:
Whatever airline you're set to fly on, be sure to download their app ahead of time. Create an account and manage/track your flight directly from the app. You can also get your boarding pass saving you time at the airport kiosks and get instant updates on flight or gate changes! These apps are a life saver! I use Delta since they're my home airport.
THIS app is my best friend! It lets me know which airports do or don't have TSA and it also lets me know whether or not those lines are open. I can store in my home airport for updates and it even lets me see what I can and cannot bring to the airport. The best part of all is that it shows me my KTN (known traveler number) which is used to identify me as a TSA verified traveler.
*Get your KTN through TSA for more benefits like not having to remove your shoes, laptops, belts or jackets when you go to airports. TSA is ran at over 200 airports including international ones, plus the lines are always shorter and faster!*
8. Your hotel's App:
Chances are the name brand hotel you're staying at has an app. Download that app and create an account to manage all your travel reservations. In most cases you earn points depending on the number of nights you stay. After earning so many points, you can redeem them for free nights. I use the Hilton Honors app to secure my stays and it even turns my phone into the key for my room! No more losing keys or forgetting to take them with you! Such a convenience.
